The World Expo is effectively the largest mix of trade exhibitions or world fairs and is not by any means a new concept, with the first World Expo in London in 1851. Each World Expo is a catalyst for economic, cultural and social transformation and generates important legacies for the host city and nation. Among the list of candidate cities for the World Expo 2020, Dubai has once again proved worthy of the world‘s confidence on its ability to host well-executed global mega events.
This would be the first time that the World Expo would be held in this emerging part of the world. Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, believes that Dubai Expo 2020 will breathe new life into the ancient role of the Middle East as a melting pot for cultures and creativity. Because in a span of just 40 years, Dubai has transformed from a small town to one of the most developed and progressive multicultural cities in the world.
The success of Dubai is a tribute to human cooperation. This is evident from the positive partnership between the hospitable people of the United Arab Emirates, and dedicated expatriates from over 200 nationalities who have collectively evolved a model of success and human cooperation. No doubt that the selected theme ―Connecting Minds, Creating the Future” signifies the city for what they have known for all over the world; the passion for bringing people together by its continued progress on interaction and cooperation between individuals worldwide.
And World Expo 2020 will allow the world to know Dubai for what it really is – a city with a goal to build a better future for the region‘s youth — and a renewed promise to astonish the world !
